OPTIMIZATION OF FOOD PRODUCT INVENTORY MANAGEMENT IN WHOLESALE TRADE ENTERPRISE

Abstract

The article provides an in-depth examination of the importance of inventory optimization as a key tool for enhancing sales efficiency in wholesale food trade enterprises. The research hypothesis suggests that the implementation of a comprehensive inventory management system – based on a combination of modern analytical methods such as ABC/XYZ analysis and the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model, innovative digital technologies including RFID identification and ERP systems, advanced logistics solutions such as Just-in-Time (JIT) and cross-docking, as well as adaptive management strategies like Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and dropshipping contributes to reducing storage costs by 15–25%, increasing inventory turnover by 20–25%, and establishing sustainable competitive advantages in the dynamic food market. The study reveals that the specific nature of food products, including limited shelf life, demand volatility, and logistical constraints, requires a flexible and differentiated approach to inventory formation. It is crucial to consider key characteristics of food products such as perishability, seasonality, and consumption volume. The article presents an original classification of food products based on their core attributes and proposes optimal inventory management strategies for each product type. Practical examples from enterprises such as «Molochnyi Dvir» LLC, «Kernel» LLC, and «METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine» demonstrate the effectiveness of the implemented solutions and their potential applicability for similar companies operating in the Ukrainian market. The research methodology is based on a combination of various scientific methods, including theoretical analysis of academic sources, comparative analysis of enterprise practices, identification of key influencing factors, analysis of statistical data, and synthesis of research findings. The results underline the strong interconnection between food inventory management in wholesale enterprises and improved sales efficiency. Thus, the implementation of modern food inventory optimization methods in wholesale trade not only reduces operational costs but also ensures supply stability, enhances customer service levels, and strengthens the company’s position in the food market.
