THE IMPACT OF QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ON THE CONSUMER ATTRACTIVENESS OF GOODS IN RETAIL TRADE

Abstract

In modern retail, product quality is crucial for consumer trust and enterprise competitiveness. Consumers consider not only price but also safety, compliance with international standards, environmental sustainability, and labeling. Retailers aim to minimize risks from low-quality goods, which can lead to reputational damage, reduced sales, and legal issues. Implementing effective quality management systems (QMS), such as ISO 9001, HACCP, and GMP, helps enterprises control quality at all production and distribution stages. However, challenges remain regarding consumer awareness of quality standards, QMS adaptation to changing assortments, and compliance variability across product categories. This highlights the need to study QMS impact on consumer preferences and develop recommendations for improving quality management in retail. The research methodology combines theoretical and empirical methods. A systematic approach was used to analyze scientific literature and regulations on quality management. Comparative analysis assessed QMS effectiveness in ensuring compliance with international standards. Statistical methods examined consumer preferences for product quality, labeling, and certification. The study confirms that QMS significantly influences consumer behavior and product competitiveness. ISO 9001 standardizes production, reducing defects and ensuring consistent product characteristics. HACCP minimizes food safety risks by preventing contamination. GMP regulates manufacturing, raw materials, and packaging, ensuring high-quality pharmaceutical and food products. ISO 22000 integrates HACCP principles into food safety management. Consumer perception of quality is shaped not only by physical characteristics but also by production transparency, labeling, and brand reputation. Clearly labeled, certified products gain higher trust and loyalty. The study emphasizes the importance of traceability systems using blockchain, QR codes, and RFID tags to monitor product quality. Regular supplier audits help prevent counterfeit or substandard goods from reaching consumers. An effective QMS enhances consumer trust, reduces risks from low-quality products, and optimizes business processes in retail. Implementing ISO 9001, HACCP, GMP, and ISO 22000 ensures compliance with safety and quality regulations, influencing purchasing decisions.
