Abstract

The rapid development of digital technologies brings obvious benefits to many areas of society: personal interaction, business, education, work, etc. But at the same time, it also brings quite significant risks that need to be identified, analyzed, and ways to overcome them. The relevance of the article is determined by the need to outline the scientific basis for studying the digitalization of society and education in different contexts and directions. The purpose of the article is to conduct a quantitative bibliometric analysis of scientific papers on the digitalization of society and education using the Scopus scientometric database, its built-in functionality, and the VOSViewer software tool for building and visualizing bibliometric networks. A key query was selected using the English-language terms "digitalization AND society OR education" to search for a sample of relevant articles in Scopus. The analysis was carried out in time and geographical dimensions, by the number of citations of articles, and the network of keyword relationships in contextual and temporal dimensions for 2014-2023 years was built and analyzed. The results show a rapid increase in the number of scientific publications since 2014 and show which countries have the greatest interest in the digitalization of society and education (Russia, EU countries, Ukraine, USA, China, and the UK). The analysis of the most cited research on this topic shows the interest of scientists in the studying of digitalization in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the industry 4.0, informatization and automation of the learning process, and climate change. The co-occurrence analysis of keywords allowed to identify 4 clusters that group all the selected scientific articles: the study of digitalization in general; the digitalization of society and education as a consequence of COVID-19; opportunities and prospects for the development of digital technologies for learning; the development of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, etc. The temporal analysis showed that before the pandemic, scientists paid attention to the Internet, information management, and Big Data, and since 2021, the topic of online education, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and other innovations has been increasingly raised.
